Let’s begin!

Earmuffs by Chester Greenwood

In 1873, a 15-year-old boy named Chester Greenwood from Maine loved to ice skate but found that his ears got too cold. So, he came up with a solution: earmuffs! He used wire and fur to create the first pair, and they worked so well that he started a business. Chester’s earmuffs became very popular, and people still use them today to keep their ears warm.

The Popsicle by Frank Epperson

On a chilly night in 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson from California accidentally left a cup of soda with a stirring stick in it on his porch. The next morning, he found that it had frozen solid. Curious, he licked the frozen treat and discovered it was delicious. He called it the "Epsicle". Later, his kids suggested renaming it "Popsicle", and the rest is history. Now, Popsicles are a favorite summer treat for children everywhere.

Crayon Holders by Cassidy Goldstein

In 2002, 11-year-old Cassidy Goldstein came up with a clever idea when she had trouble using small, broken crayons. She created crayon holders using plastic tubes to help her grip the crayons better. This simple but brilliant invention made it easier for kids to use their broken crayons and reduced waste.

Man-Cans by Hart Main

At age 13, Hart Main noticed that most candles had scents that appealed more to women than men. So, he decided to create "manly" scented candles using soup cans. He called his product "Man-Cans" and filled them with scents like bacon, fresh-cut grass, and campfire. Not only did his candles become popular, but he also donated a portion of the profits to soup kitchens.

Smart Wheel by the Smart Wheel Team

In 2013, a group of six middle school students invented the Smart Wheel, a device that helps prevent distracted driving. The wheel fits over a car’s steering wheel and alerts the driver if their hands are not in the correct position. Their invention was so impressive that they even appeared on the TV show "Shark Tank".

These amazing stories show that you don’t have to be an adult to invent something useful. All you need is curiosity and a problem worth solving.
