The ostrich is a bird, but it is different from other birds. It can’t fly but it can run!

The ostrich is a very fast runner. It can run between 48 and 80 kilometers an hour. The ostrich is a very big bird. A male ostrich weighs between 68 and 136 kilograms and can be 1.80 to 2.75 meters tall.

Ostriches are strong and can be very dangerous. If they kick you, it really hurts! The ostrich eggs are the largest eggs in the world. They weigh over one kilogram. Some people think the ostrich puts its head in the sand, but it really doesn’t.

There are many ostrich farms all over the world. You can even visit an ostrich farm in Israel. One of these is the Bashan Rahat Ostrich Farm. Yoav Bashan and David Rahat started the farm in 1985. The farm is in the south of Israel, on Moshav Nir Banim. You can see these interesting birds there and learn more about them.
