Harder pairs, silent letters, and finding mistakes in a text.
Many English homophones exist because one word has a silent letter. "Knight" has a silent k, "write" has a silent w, and "hour" has a silent h. The letter is not pronounced, so the word sounds like another word entirely.
| Sound | First word | Second word |
|---|---|---|
| /naɪt/ | night — the dark part of the day | knight — a warrior in armour |
| /raɪt/ | right — correct, or the opposite of left | write — to put words on paper |
| /nəʊ/ | no — the opposite of yes | know — to have knowledge |
| /weə/ | wear — to have clothes on | where — in which place |
| /weɪst/ | waist — the middle of your body | waste — to use badly |
| /pi:s/ | peace — quiet, no war | piece — a part of something |
| /pleɪn/ | plain — simple, or a flat area | plane — an aircraft |
